Queensland is Australia's fastest growing and second largest exporter. Under the Driving Export Growth for Queensland: 2006-2011 export strategy, the Queensland Government is working with business, industry and regional partners to secure the State's future prosperity.
Centres of Enterprise
Six Centres of Enterprise have been established across the State committed to building the economic strength of Queensland's regions. Each is focused on one or two key industries with significant potential to attract new investment, expand business and drive the regional economy forward.
The Centres of Enterprise include:
- Cairns and far north Queensland focusing on aviation services, tropical expertise and marine services
- Townsville and north west Queensland focusing on mining and mineral processing, tropical science and expertise
- Mackay and Whitsunday focusing on mining and marine services
- Fitzroy and central west Queensland focusing on manufacturing, engineering and industrial services
- Wide Bay Burnett focusing on aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles
- Darling Downs and south west Queensland focusing on food processing and industry opportunities from the Surat Energy Resources Province.
Cooperative Research Centres
The Queensland Government supports 47 Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) across the State to undertake long-term, highly focused research. Bringing together the skills and resources of industry, government and education sectors, the CRCs help boost Queensland's technological capacity, commercial opportunities and leading-edge knowledge.
Trade Queensland
Trade Queensland has special expertise in the following export sectors:
- Creative industries
- International development business
- Manufacturing
- Mining, equipment technologies and services
- Sports business.
