Korea
Overview
Korea is Queensland's second largest export market with merchandise exports in 2006-07 totalling $3.8 billion.
While traditional exports from the resource sector account for more than half of Queensland's exports to Korea, new export opportunities are emerging.
The Korean demographic is shifting and in the next ten years one in four Koreans will be aged over 60. Combined with the increased leisure time for Koreans now working a five-day week, this provides significant opportunities for Queensland businesses.
Significant potential exists for Queensland companies in Korea's growing marine sector.
A number of nationwide marina development projects are currently being planned which will lead to business opportunities such as marina design, recreational boat and motor cruiser sales, yacht academy training and management. This is an area we will focus on to maximise opportunities for the Queensland marine industry.
Trade Queensland is also targeting other key export growth areas such as creative industries, education and training, cosmetics and skincare, equine services, processed and functional foods and sport business.
