South-East Asia
Overview
Strong economic growth, rising household incomes and increasingly open economies offer many export opportunities for Queensland businesses in South-East Asia.
Queensland is a major exporter to the region providing education and training, urban planning, tourism development, agribusiness services and technologies, rail infrastructure, aviation and environmental goods and services.
Our key South-East Asian markets include:
- Indonesia: This is our 10th largest export market and an important destination for agribusiness, manufacturing, mining and environmental goods and services. Further opportunities are being pursued in education and training.
- Malaysia: Malaysia offers many export opportunities for Queensland businesses particularly in the services and knowledge-intensive sectors. Trade Queensland is building on existing educational and professional service links with Malaysia and identifying ways to collaborate on key projects involving ICT, biotechnology, aviation and tourism industry development as well as rail infrastructure and agribusiness technologies and systems.
- Thailand: As one of South-East Asia's leading economic forces, Thailand provides significant opportunities for Queensland businesses, in areas such as transport infrastructure and building and construction.
- Vietnam: Agribusiness training and services particularly for technology and breeding stock for dairy and beef cattle and tropical fruit offer significant export opportunities for Queensland businesses in Vietnam.
A major initiative for South-East Asia is the Regional Sustainable Development Strategic Export Project which has identified export opportunities in Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia for Queensland businesses to help meet demand for residential developments and mining operations.
Opportunities exist in housing systems, environmental services and technologies including waste water treatment and alternative energy supply. We are working with Queensland businesses to build on these opportunities.
