Taiwan
Overview
Taiwan is currently Queensland's sixth largest export market. A key market for sugar, beef, coal and non-ferrous metals, Taiwan is also an important market for inbound tourists to Queensland and one of the State's major student recruitment markets.
Growth in Taiwan's aviation sector related to economic activity in mainland China, presents good opportunities for training pilots, cabin crews and engineering and maintenance staff. The Queensland Government led a trade mission to Taiwan in December 2007 to promote Queensland's aviation expertise.
Having made a significant transition from a manufacturing-based economy to a services economy, Taiwan is one of the most robust middle-income economies in Asia and a leader in high-technology solutions.
Taiwan is not only an important market for Queensland firms in its own right but also an important springboard for businesses into China. As trade and investment in China grows, Taiwan will become an increasingly important link in global supply chains providing opportunities for supply to a broad range of manufacturing industries including boat building, building materials and processed foods.
