Overview
The United States of America (United States) is a strong trade and investment partner for Queensland. Meat, non-ferrous metals and non-road transport equipment are our top exports to the United States.
In 2006-07, the United States was our third largest export destination for knowledge-intensive goods exports and our largest export destination for advanced manufacturing, aviation and professional and scientific equipment. The United States is also a significant source market for international students and international visitors to Queensland.
Strategic relationships have been developed with government and industry partners in the United States to promote our export capability in biotechnology, ICT, mining technology, creative industries, aviation and marine.
The United States is the principal target market for Queensland biotechnology firms for both export sales and investment partnering opportunities.
A multi-faceted biotechnology partnership with Washington State has also been formed to help support the export growth of the biotechnology sector.
Under the Driving Export Growth for Queensland strategy export projects are being developed to support those sectors experiencing improved market access from the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement.
One such project is the Multi-market Manufacturing Project (MMMP) which commenced in 2006. MMMP provides Queensland manufacturing companies with up-to-date research on overseas markets. The United States has been one of the key markets for Queensland companies under this program. Research can include market overviews, visit programs, competitor research and potential partner searches.
The United States is also a target market for Queensland's creative industries. Export initiatives focus on music, writing, publishing and Indigenous art as well as advanced technologies including ICT and games development. Trade Queensland is assisting the State's musicians and artists with showcasing opportunities at international music industry events in the United States.

In addition, our overseas market development teams based in Brisbane work closely with our network of export advisers throughout Queensland and overseas, enhancing opportunities for mutual support and collaboration to help build the export capability of Queensland firms and help drive export growth.
