Latin America
Overview
Queensland has developed strong links with Latin America in recent years. New mine expansions, mining projects, exploration and infrastructure development in Chile, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina are expected to provide significant opportunities for Queensland businesses.
Trade Queensland is working with Queensland mining equipment, technologies and service companies to promote our first-class mining reputation to Latin America. Export development activities aim to broaden the base of Queensland mining suppliers to win contracts and improve awareness among Queensland exporters of the Latin American market.
Target areas include:
- Equipment and machinery leasing, installation, maintenance and services
- Engineering, surveying and laboratory services
- Education and training, management and technical training services
- Environmental consulting, management and technologies
- Processing technologies and other ICT applications.
Trade Queensland regularly leads successful mining trade missions to Latin America. The most recent were to Mexico, Brazil, Peru and Chile.
Brazil is becoming a significant market for Queensland coal and manufactured goods and is also one of the State's top 10 student recruitment markets and a major market for inbound tourism.
Beyond Brazil, other Latin American markets are emerging with strong export growth in tourism, education and training and for a range of tropical agricultural services.
The Driving Export Growth for Queensland strategy is also building on the strategic relationships Queensland has developed with large Latin American corporations such as the Chilean copper giant, Codelco, Peruvian Newmont's Yanacocha Mine and with key regional governments including the State of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
Trade Queensland offices
Trade Queensland Americas office, located in Los Angeles, services Latin America and provides export advice and assistance to Queensland businesses.
In addition, our overseas market development teams based in Brisbane work closely with our network of export advisers throughout Queensland and overseas, enhancing opportunities for mutual support and collaboration to help build the export capability of Queensland firms and help drive export growth.
