Africa
Overview
Africa is seeing its strongest economic growth since the 1970s. Largely driven by booming commodity prices, Africa has enormous potential to become a significant player in global trade and commerce.
A major contributor to the region's sustained economic growth is its abundant natural resource base. Emerging opportunities in Africa include mining equipment, technologies and services, education and training, agri-business and construction and infrastructure.
Queensland is continuing to build strong global networks and gain footholds in this region.
South Africa is a strong export market for Queensland coal valued at $206 million in 2006-07 and Queensland is exporting mining equipment, technologies and services to 37 of the 47 Sub Saharan Africa markets.
As South Africa prepares to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, industry sources predict very high annual growth as demand grows for infrastructure, training, telecommunications equipment, energy and power.
Queensland has formed a strategic partnership with the Province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa to strengthen our trade relationship.
