9th International Mining and Machinery Exhibition (IMME)
Date: 3-7 November
Location: Kolkata, India
Mining in India: There is a high demand for mining technologies and services to increase production of India's mining and energy industries. The Indian mining sector is currently in a major growth phase and India is one of the world's leading producers of bauxite, coal, iron ore, steel and zinc. The booming Indian economy has created a high demand for coking coal, necessary for India to sustain the huge growth of its industry and population. With very high mineral commodity prices, a number of state governments in India are offering considerable investment incentives to Indian and overseas companies to develop downstream mineral processing facilities.
IMME 2008: IMME is India's largest mining exhibition, and in 2006 the event attracted 250 exhibitors from 15 countries and over 12,000 visitors. Australia holds Focus Country status for the IMME 2008 exhibition, offering a unique opportunity for Queensland firms to make contact with key representatives of the Indian mining sector. Opportunities to supply mining technology and services exist for open cut and underground coal mines.
Running concurrently to IMME is the Global Mining Summit. Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Summit will address opportunities and issues in the Indian mining sector and will provide another opportunity for delegates to interact with industry and Government decision-makers.
