2009 International Business Cadetship Program

Trade Queensland is seeking expressions of interest from Queensland companies and organisations interested in sponsoring the 2009 International Business Cadetship program, and applications from highly talented individuals for the 2009 cadet positions.

About the program

Established in 1999, the program provides Queensland entities with the opportunity to sponsor a cadet to undertake a market-based export or investment project in one of Trade Queensland's international offices:

  • The Americas
  • China
  • Europe
  • India
  • Japan
  • Korea
  • The Middle East

  • Possible promotional expense, enabling sponsors to apply for Austrade's Export Market Development Grant (subject to compliance with the rules of the program and approval from Austrade).

Investment for sponsors is $20 000.

Cadets '09 - applications open Oct 2008

Sponsors for the 2009 program will participate in a comprehensive selection process of successful and highly motivated applicants to fill up to six cadet opportunities. The selection process will aim to ensure the best possible matching of cadets' skills with sponsors' requirements, including (where applicable) particular language/cultural skills.

During the 29-week placement you will undertake targeted research and market assessment work for your sponsor. The program, a great opporutnity for you to enhance your international business and markeing expretise, includes: 

  • five-week orientation period with your sponsors in Queensland
  • 20-week placemetn in a Trade Queensland international office where you will complete an export / investment focussed project for your sponsor
  • four-week debrief in Queensland with your sponsor and Trade Queensland
  • Value for money/cost-effective international market entry

Dates* for the 2009 program

  • July - September 2008: Expressions of Interest open for sponsorship
  • Early October 2008: Cadet applications open
  • Early November 2008: Cadet applications close
  • Mid to late November 2008: Candidate short listing
  • Early December 2008: Candidate interviews 
  • Mid December 2008: Successful cadets notified
  • 17 February 2009: Cadets begin work with Trade Queensland 
  • 24 March 2009: Cadets begin assignments in the Trade Queensland office overseas 
  • 11 August 2009: Cadets return to work in Queensland
  • 5 September 2009: 2009 International Business Cadet program concludes
