Categories
The Premier of Queensland's Export Awards program is an opportunity for businesses of all sizes, across a wide range of sectors, to showcase their export achievements.
There are a number of award categories available. These include industry awards and other awards that acknowledge exporting achievements and success.
Industry awards
In 2009, entries for industry awards will be accepted in the following categories:
Note: Except where specified below, applicants can enter multiple categories but are only eligible to win one category.
Agribusiness
For outstanding export achievement in the field of agricultural products, services or technology, including processed foods and beverages, and the forestry, fisheries and fibres industries.
Note: Equipment manufacturers should apply in the relevant Small to Medium Manufacturer or Large Advanced Manufacturer categories.
Arts and Entertainment
For outstanding export achievement across all cultural industries including fine arts, performing arts, electronic and online entertainment.
Education and Training
For outstanding innovation and export achievement in the field of education and training services, expertise and curriculum.
Emerging Exporter
For outstanding export achievement by an enterprise in any industry sector which has been exporting goods or services for three years or less.
Information and Communication Technology
For outstanding export achievement in the field of information and communication products, technology or services.
Large Advanced Manufacturer
For outstanding export achievement by a manufacturer with total annual sales of $30 million or more.
Large Services
For outstanding export achievement in a recognised services industry such as the consultancy, fashion, finance, insurance, legal, health, design, community, sports, events and tourism, mining and engineering sectors with total annual sales of $15 million or more.
Note: Education and training service providers should apply in the Education and Training Award category.
Minerals and Energy
For outstanding export achievement in the production or primary processing of extractive and value-added minerals or energy products.
Regional Exporter
For outstanding export achievement by a business whose head office is based in a non-metropolitan location (All businesses located outside Brisbane City, e.g. Logan and Redcliffe, may enter this category.)
Small to Medium Services
For outstanding export achievement in a recognised services industry such as the consultancy, fashion, finance, insurance, legal, health, design, community, sports, events and tourism, mining and engineering sectors with total annual sales of less than $15 million.
Note: Education and training service providers should apply in the Education and Training Award category.
Small to Medium Manufacturer
For outstanding export achievement by a manufacturer with total annual sales of less than $30 million.
Small Business
For outstanding export achievement by any business with total annual sales not exceeding $3 million.
Queensland Exporter of the Year
The overall Queensland Exporter of the Year will be selected from the winners of the categories shown above.
Additional awards
The following additional awards are available.
Note: Winners of the first four awards listed below will not be considered for the Queensland Exporter of the Year Award.
Richard Joel Young Export Entrepreneur Award
This award acknowledges the success of younger people who are leading exporting businesses. Business owners who are 35 years of age and under (as at 24 July 2009) are eligible. The award is given in honour of the late Mr Richard Joel AM, formerly the Chief Executive Officer of the Brisbane City Office of Economic Development, and a 2000 Centennial Medal recipient for services in promoting economic development in Brisbane.
Dermot McManus Award
This award is for outstanding achievement in the field of innovation in export in relation to a particular priority world market. Finalists in all categories will be considered for this award. It is given in honour of the late Mr Dermot McManus, Agent-General and Commissioner of the Trade Queensland Office, Europe, from December 1995 to October 2000.
Tom Burns Award
This award recognises the success of emerging exporters to China or Vietnam and was Established in 2007 in memory of the late Honourable Tom Burns AO.
Premier's Special Award
This award is presented to an individual or group that has made an outstanding contribution to Queensland's export profile and success.
Chambers of Commerce awards
The Premier of Queensland's Export Awards complement other award programs. If your company exports to Britain or Japan you can also enter the following awards:
2009 Australian British Chamber of Commerce, Queensland Export Excellence Awards (for exporters to Britain)
2009 Queensland Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Export Excellence Awards (for exporters to Japan)
