Global Navigation Satellite Systems
Why Queensland for GNSS solutions?
Queensland's large land area and decentralised population mean that Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is a very important technology for the State. This is why Queensland has become the leading state in Australia servicing the booming market for GNSS products and services.
Queensland has a globally significant concentration of companies specialised in delivering GNSS solutions for mining, agriculture and infrastructure development. Queensland companies also have a strong reputation for developing GNSS-based solutions for a number of other market sectors, including transport, emergency services, environmental protection, spatial information, tourism, defence and security, as well as in the rapidly growing consumer and recreational markets.
Queensland has at least 40 companies specialising in GNSS-based product development. The State is also home to several research centres with strengths in GNSS, precise positioning and synergistic research fi elds such as autonomous vehicles, intelligent transport and intelligent vehicles.
The Queensland Government is a large and innovative user of GNSS and has invested in products and systems that are applied to the delivery of a wide range of government services.
In addition, the Queensland Government is committed to developing world-class infrastructure with the establishment of the fi rst GNSS reference station network in the Southern Hemisphere, which is capable of delivering centimetre accuracy in real-time.
These fact sheets are one of several GNSS industry initiatives implemented by the Queensland Government, which seek to:
- strengthen Queensland's role as a hub for the GNSS industry in Australia and the Asia-Pacifi c region
- increase exports of GNSS goods and services from Queensland
- ensure Queensland achieves maximum economic advantage through widespread adoption of GNSS.
We have profiled key players in all sectors of Queensland's dynamic GNSS industry, all of which stand ready to partner with you in delivering innovative solutions for your business.
